The body of a man was found in a vacant lot in LaSalle Wednesday morning.

Police said they could not confirm the identity of the victim or if it is the body of 64-year-old taxi driver Mohammed Nehar-Belaid, who went missing on Sunday.

The body was found amid debris near the corner of Wanklyn Ave. and Des Oblats St. at 11:20 a.m. There were marks of violence found on his body.

"For now we can not confirm anything, because the body has not been identified, but anything is possible at this stage," said Montreal police Const. Anie Lemieux, referring to the possibility the body could belong to Nehar-Belaid.

The Montreal police major crimes unit is on the scene trying to find information leading to the circumstances of the victim's death.

This is the 29th homicide victim of the year in Montreal. At the same time last year, 20 homicides had been committed in Montreal.
