Two dozen people and pets protested outside Montreal City Hall Monday evening to show their opposition to the city's animal control bylaw.

The protesters said they are concerned about breed specific legislation that bans new pit bulls from living in Montreal.

"Dogs are being abandoned and they're being... as of March 31st the SPCA will no longer be taking them. Does that mean Berger Blanc? I mean this is frightening for everyone and people are afraid," said Linda Cloud.

The SPCA is challenging certain aspects of the bylaw in court, while a second group including lawyers Anne-France Goldwater and Julius Grey is challenging the entire bylaw.

Monday's protest was timed to coincide with the first city council meeting of the year.

It comes one day after a pit bull was euthanized for attacking a seven-year-old boy in his home.
