VAL-D'OR, QUE. -- An Amber Alert for a missing five-year-old girl in northwestern Quebec has been cancelled after police say she was found safe.

The Surete du Quebec issued the alert early Sunday morning alleging the child had been abducted in Val d'Or.

Just after 6:30 a.m. ET, police announced on Twitter that the child had been found "safe and sound" and the alert had been cancelled.

"Around 6:15 a.m. this morning, a team of patrollers from the main post of the MRC de la Vallee-de-l'Or, therefore the post of Val-d'Or, circulated in a wooded area and 1/8... 3/8 patrollers locate the girl and the man in the vehicle that was wanted, "said Sgt Jean-Raphael Drolet, spokesperson for the provincial police service.

Drolet said the girl was found with a 36-year-old man who was suspected in her brief disappearance.

"When the officers located the two people, the man tried to run away," Drolet said. "However, he was quickly located by the patrollers who arrested him."

There was no immediate word on whether charges are being laid in the case.
