Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo has undergone surgery for a lesion on his thyroid gland and the CFL teams says preliminary results are encouraging.

The 38-year-old Calvillo revealed the thyroid problem after leading the Als to their second straight Grey Cup last month.

Calvillo underwent surgery Thursday for a lesion on his thyroid gland at the Montreal General Hospital.

The cause of the lesion is still not known. The team says final pathology information will be received in a few weeks.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Roger Tabah, accompanied by Dr. Richard Payne.

In a statement released by the team, Calvillo thanked everyone for their support and encouragement.
