Hundreds of women gathered outside Christ Church Cathedral Tuesday to bring attention to their concerns during the federal election campaign.

Women's centres across Montreal have written a manifesto to add their voices to debates on social issues.

They are concerned about how austerity measures are affecting them on a daily basis, about facing discrimination, and about improving the lives of children.

"We want respect, we want to be heard, and we won't stop until we are heard," said Carolle Mathieu, president of the Verdun Women's Centre.

Debra Fogel, one of the women taking part in the demonstration, had a long list of things she felt were wrong with society.

"Finding a job, breaking the glass ceiling, getting a decent job, having a good place a healthy place to live. Having access to health care, health care that is meant for our needs. Especially a lot of women, family doctors, it's not just them, it's their children," she said.

As part of Tuesday's demonstration each line of the manifesto was read by a different person, in one of a dozen languages.

The International March of Women is a series of protests and other movements that began in March and wraps up later this month.
