A man who was shot and killed near Snowdon metro on Sunday night was an Ottawa native who once played for the Gee Gees university football team.

Several sources identified the victim as 31-year-old Derrick Crowder who had played for both the University of Ottawa team as well as the Ottawa Junior Riders of the Quebec Junior Football League.

Crowder was known to police, but they have not disclosed if he was the intended target.

According to the SPVM, shots were fired at around 9:30 near the intersection of Queen Mary Rd. and Westbury Ave. near the entrance to a restaurant.

Police found Crowder on the scene with at least one bullet wound to the upper body. He was able to talk, but refused to cooperate with police while being transported to hospital and died soon thereafter.
