L'Université du Quebec à Montreal has decided it will not extend the semester.

The ruling was made in a special session of the Board of Directors on Thursday evening.

That means the semester will end in a few weeks on its regularly scheduled date of May 3, with the summer session beginning on May 4.

School administrators have asked a subcommittee to come up with a way to validate coursework for faculties and courses affected by the student boycott.

Four out of UQAM's seven faculties, including three-quarters of all students, were never affected by the student protest.

The Board notes that its decision is based on the negative effects that would result if it decided to officially extend the semester, including for students, and administrative and functional requirements of the school.

Earlier this week UQAM's commission of studies recommended extending the semester until June 19, 2015.
