Police have arrested two men in their twenties after a Canada Day celebration erupted into violence on the West Island Tuesday.

One man, 18, suffered stab wounds to the back, while another, aged 34, was stabbed in the hand at around 11:30 p.m. near St. John Blvd and Pierrefonds.

The stabbings took place after a fight began near a strip mall following the fireworks show nearby.

At least one onlooker pelted police with projectiles when they arrived and attempted to establish a perimeter around the crime scene in order to investigate what occurred. No officer was hurt.

Both victims are expected to recover from their wounds.

Police are interviewing the alleged attackers.
