Two Laval-based Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employees have been suspended without pay in connection with a cheque issued to Nicolo Rizzuto in 2007.

Six other CRA employees have already been fired and face criminal charges, while two others have been fired in connection the incident involving Nick Rizzuto, a longtime mob boss who was assassinated in 2010.

Rizzuto received a tax refund of $381,000 on September 13, 2007, when he owed $1.5 million in taxes.

Minister of National Revenue Kerry-Lynne Findlay promised Thursday that anybody found to have participated in the wrongdoings will be punished.

CRA Internal Affairs is currently working on a report that should be ready by the end of this year.
