A 15-year-old boy is dead after a stabbing in the Verdun borough on Friday night.

A fight broke out between several individuals at 10:50 p.m. on L’Ile-Des-Soeurs Blvd. near Darwin St., said police. That’s when the boy was stabbed in the upper body at least once.

He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Two other teens were also taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

A 16-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and is expected to be in court on Monday afternoon.

"Obviously during the course of the day, we're going to interview the suspect in that case to get a better view of what exactly caused the altercation between the suspect and the victim," said SPVM spokesperson Raphael Bergeron.

Investigators said they have recovered a weapon.

It is the eighteenth murder in Montreal in 2016.

Neighbours expressed shock at the killing, saying the residential area is almost entirely peaceful.
