A SQ provincial police officer has been suspended with pay after Montreal police arrested him Wednesday in connection with the beating of a Beaconsfield city planning official.
The arrests stemmed from an incident at the Summerlea Golf Course in Vaudreuil last summer in which Beaconsfield city planning official Denis Chabot was beaten by two baseball-bat wielding assailants.
SQ officer Peter De Castris and three others were arrested in connection with the attack.
Beaconsfield city officials would not comment on the affair to CTV Montreal Wednesday but issued a press release confirming that they had been contacted by the Montreal police following the arrests, which were related to certain events involving city officials.
It is believed that de Castris might have been frustrated by the city's refusal to grant him certain renovation licenses to make changes to a luxurious home he owned on Lakeshore Blvd.
CTV Montreal has learned that the home in question was purchased by de Castris in 2009 for $500,000 and was sold last week for $1,333,000.
Montreal police representative Ian Lafreniere said that the four suspects were freed on the condition that they return to face charges.
The charges against them are related to the intimidation of justice officials and assault.
More arrests might follow, according to Lafreniere.
