A video posted on the "SpottedETSmtl" Facebook page shows the driver of a sidewalk snowplow violently destroying a bicycle.

The bike was chained to a post on the sidewalk on Barré St. in the Southwest borough.

The video, posted to the page on Dec. 17, shows the heavy equipment plowing right over the bike and destroying it.

Southwest Borough Mayor Benoit Dorais was furious, calling the situation “totally unacceptable.”

He specified that they are not city employees, but rather a contractor. He e-mailed the contractor, Pavages d'Amour, and told them they will be fined.

“They have to pay for the damages and they have to pay for the installation of the sign,” he said, adding that this was the second incident of a snow plow destroying a bicycle this week.

“This person broke two bicycles right in front of me,” Dorais said.

The owner of Pavages D'Amour told CTV Montreal the driver has been reprimanded, but would not specify how.

Dorais said it is not possible to break the contract between the borough and the company.
