The once-neglected area around Jean Talon and Mountain Sites has been exploding thanks to residential developments that are proving popular with home buyers.

But some of those who moved in are unhappy that a green space promised for the area appears nowhere in future plans.

“A lot of people bought in this area in hopes that we were promised a big park, market, some green space for us to go and just enjoy,” area resident Phil Vourtzoumis told CTV Montreal Thursday.

“So far nothing is happening.”

The borough aims to increase the current total of 1,600 condos in the area to 4,000 but admits that it hasn’t been able to purchase land to create a park.

None of the nearby property owners has shown any interest in selling, borough authorities admit.

Cote des Neiges-NDG borough officials explained the problem at a press conference Thursday in which they unveiled $60 million to complete infrastructure such as pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewers and sidewalks over the next three years in the area known as the Triangle.

“The work involves a rehabilitation of water lines, sewers and more significantly for residents changes to the configuration of roads, widening sidewalks, we’ll reduce traffic flow in that area all of which is destined to make the Triangle a comfortable, livable green neighbourhood,” said Copeman.
