One of the pianos that dots public areas in Montreal has been vandalized.

On Monday morning, the Fleury Promenade merchant association found the piano in front of the Metro grocery store on Fleury St. at Garnier St. had been attacked overnight.

Someone had ripped out several keys, punched the seat out of a folding chair, and ripped off part of the front board.

The keyboard cover had also been torn off.

The merchants say they cannot afford to replace the piano, and are asking anyone with information to notify police.

They also say that people who spot vandals damaging property should call 9-1-1.

There are many other public pianos throughout Montreal, all installed as part of an initiative begun in 2012 by the Plateau-Mont Royal borough.
