Montreal police confirm that the body of a man missing since December has been found.

David Jean Cottard, 42, was found in the Notre-Dame Basin at Parc Jean-Drapeau April 20.

After speaking with his family, police do not believe any criminal element was at play.

Police investigators had called on the public’s help finding Cottard, who left his work near The Bay store downtown at lunchtime on Dec. 15, 2014 and was never seen again.

Police had set up a command post, and Cottard's brother travelled from Brazil to help in the search. Cottard was originally from France.

At the time he spoke with CTV News on Christmas Eve, his brother explained, "This is nothing like the person we know so this is why we are extremely worried."
