A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a highway overpass.

The collision happened at 5:30 a.m. on the Cote Vertu Blvd. overpass.

Police say the pedestrian, a 70-year-old man, was crossing the street at an area without a crosswalk when he was hit by a westbound car.

The pedestrian was dragged several metres before the driver was able to stop.

Police say the man was taken to hospital in critical condition and died soon afterward, even though a yellow tarp with a body underneath was lying on Cote Vertu Blvd. throughout the morning.

The driver, a man in his fifties, was treated for nervous shock.

Police are asking anyone who saw the collision to call 9-1-1 or Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.
