MONTREAL - In what police are calling a home invasion one man tied up three people before forcing one person to drive to a bank to get cash.

"This is really rare, this kind of home invasion," Montreal police Const. Simon Delorme said. "We take this case really seriously and we're going to put all the resources necessary to try to find out the criminal."

The incident happened late Tuesday evening in NDG, when a man was able to convince residents living on Belmore Ave. near Terrebonne St. to let him inside.

Police describe the suspect as a smooth-talker who managed to convince them to let him in.

"He just built up a false story to gain the confidence of the people," Delorme said.

Once inside the home the man pulled out a gun and threatened a man and a woman in their 50s and the man's son.

He tied up the trio, then took the older man at gunpoint and ordered him to drive to an ATM to get cash.

The victim drove his car to Victoria St. and Sherbrooke St. in Westmount, then parked in the alley behind the Royal Bank and used the ATM.

Once the suspect had the cash in hand he fled on foot.

Aside from being shaken by the holdup, all three victims were physically unharmed but they were treated for shock.

And they weren't the only ones shaken up by the incident.

"We were surprised and upset, and feel very badly for him and his family," neighbour Antoinette Taddeo told CTV Montreal's Maya Johnson.

Police are not confirming the identities of the victims, but CTV has confirmed the home is owned by Eric Goldberg.

His father is the owner of Lou Goldberg Jewellers on Greene Ave. in Westmount.

For now police are not saying if this was a random crime or if the Goldbergs were deliberately targeted.
