A 44-year-old man on trial for the sexual assault and attempted murder of his 11-year-old niece was back in court on Wednesday, saying he now plans to testify in his own defence.
The man cannot be named because he is related to the victim.
Earlier this week, the court refused to dismiss his case even though police mistakenly destroyed some physical evidence.
The case resumes May 20.
