A small fire in Rosemount led to the discovery of a marijuana grow operation.

The one-alarm fire started around 1 a.m. Thursday in the basement of a rowhouse on De Lorimier Ave. near Dandurand Ave.

Firefighters were easily able to put out the fire, but while doing so they discovered about 40 marijuana plants.

After discovering the plants and the hydroponic setup, they inspected the roof to see if the electrical connections to the building had been tampered with.

Police seized the illicit plants and arrested the 36-year-old man who lived in the basement apartment.

Four other residents of the building will not be able to return home until the building's safety is verified.
