Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows will have to sit out a trio of games for a late, illegal check to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin.

Burrows was not penalized on the play, which led to the first Vancouver goal midway through the second period of what turned out to be a 3-2 Vancouver overtime victory.

Emelin left the game but returned after receiving medical attention.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced the three-game suspension Friday.

He will forfeit $72,580.65, money that goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
