At the trial of Richard Henry Bain Wednesday, there were some surprising revelations about the weapons the accused owned at the time of the Metropolis shooting.

Marc-André Dubé, on loan to the RCMP's National Weapon Enforcement Team testified that all of Bain's 22 weapons were fully registered.

He had the necessary permit for possession and acquisition of firearms, which covered unrestricted, restricted and prohibited weapons.

Of his 22 weapons:

  • 18 were unrestricted weapons, including ten CZ tactical semi-automatic rifles similar to the one used to kill Denis Blanchette,
  • 3 were restricted handguns.
  • 1 was a prohibited handgun he was allowed to keep because he had an acquired right on it.

The investigator said six of the CZ semi-automatic rifles were never found after Bain's arrest.

The prosecution will rest its case Thursday. The jury will then have two weeks off before the defense lays out its case in July.
