Police have arrested a Saint-Constant man they suspect is behind the fatal hit and run of a toddler.

Roussillon police say they arrested a 25-year-old man in his home on Wednesday morning at 7:15 a.m.

They believe he drove away from the scene at 9 a.m. on May 27, when two-year-old Dominique Wenga was struck on Rabelais St.

According to initial information from the police investigation, Dominique was playing in the backyard of his home when he disappeared from his parents’ sight. They found him unconscious on the street.

The man is set to appear in the Longueuil courthouse Thursday where he will face a criminal charge of fatal hit and run, a crime punishable by life in prison.

More details will be provided after the man appears in court.
