Flyers at McGill featuring anti-gay and anti-Muslim logos and the words ‘make Canada great again’ are causing concern for students and staff.

Though most of the posters have now been torn down, photos are still circulating on social media.

They read: ‘Tired of anti-white propaganda? It's time to make Canada great again.’

The posters include the web addresses of white supremacist groups and are signed ‘your local deplorables.’

Those so-called ‘deplorables’ are not making their identity public at the moment, but seem clearly inspired by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

The signs make many students uncomfortable, said Michelle Li, a member of Queer McGill.

“The people of the United States have said that they might not actively support homophobia or anything that Trump supports, but they're saying they are okay with it,” she said.

Fo Niemi, the director of the Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations, said since Trump's victory, he has been hearing more stories of people being attacked with hate speech.

“For example, a person who is going to a grocery store and coming across someone who says, 'You people, you take up too much space, you should go back where you came from' and they're saying that without any kind of embarrassment or apology afterwards,” he said.
