NEW YORK - New York City police have arrested a woman from the Montreal suburb of Candiac for allegedly stalking actor Alec Baldwin.

A police spokesman said Genevieve Sabourin, 40, was arrested last night at Baldwin's Manhattan home and charged with aggravated harassment and stalking.

The blond-haired, hazel-eyed Sabourin was arrested and charged with aggravated harassment and stalking after attempting to talk her way into the apartment building via the doorman.

It isn't clear how long the alleged stalking had been going on, but police say a criminal complaint on file dates back to last Thursday.

Police allege that is when Sabourin showed up at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where Baldwin was hosting an event. Sabourin had to be removed by security.

Police say she also turned up at his Long Island home on March 31.

Baldwin told police he met the woman a few years ago. He says she has called him repeatedly and professed her love for him.

Baldwin, the 54-year-old actor who currently stars on "30 Rock," was recently engaged to 28-year-old yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas.

Sabourin, a little-known Canadian actress, has a handful of television, commercial and film credits to her name.

Also included on her profile on the Internet Movie Database is a credit for working as a publicist on a 2002 Eddie Murphy movie, "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," in which Baldwin had an uncredited cameo.

It is believed that is where the two first met.

Sabourin became a household name online on Monday as her name and photo were plastered all over entertainment news websites.

It wasn't immediately clear if Sabourin had a lawyer.

Baldwin spokesman Matthew Hiltzik sent The Canadian Press an email on Monday that read as follows: "As you know, stalking is a serious issue, so we've turned this matter over to the New York Police Department."
