More than 100 firefighters battled a five-alarm blaze that spread from a bar to an apartment building in Montreal North Wednesday afternoon.

Flames broke out at 12:45 p.m. in a bar on the main floor of the building at 6711 Henri-Bourassa Blvd. East.

The bar, piano bar in the basement, and apartments under renovation on the second and third floors were empty when the fire erupted.

Flames quickly spread to 6725 Henri-Bourassa, which is a three-storey apartment building.

By the time the fire was extinguished both buildings were destroyed.
