About 300 white-collar workers marched with pickets amid a loud din of recordings and horns outside of city hall on Monday evening to express their dissatisfaction with a lack of progress in contract talks with the city.

The workers have not had a contract since 2011 and the two sides appear far apart, as the city has expressed the desire to lower the workers' wages by about 10 percent.

The protesters played loud recordings of Mayor Denis Coderre saying that he would not negotiate in public. The workers say that he has been doing just that.

The demonstration ended peacefully as the protesters dispersed at around 7:30 p.m. amid a heavy police presence, as police ensured that the protesters did not enter city hall during the council meeting.
