The SPCA in Ste-Agathe believes nine dogs found roaming in the town of Montcalm were used as breeding dogs for a local puppy mill.

The dogs were in quite bad shape. They had severely matted fur, deformed paws, and rotting or missing teeth.

They also had severe parasites. The dogs are currently in an isolation room at the Ste-Agathe SPCA.

Dogs found

The dogs were seen roaming in the town Wednesday afternoon when a man called to say there were dogs wandering around his property and the neighbourhood.

The SPCA was able to catch eight of the poodles and Shih Tzus. By the time they arrived, one dog had died.

The dogs will be shaved and treated with medication to kill the parasites. They will also be sterilized and undergo a behaviour evaluation before they are deemed ready for adoption.
