A man is dead after part of a wall collapsed Thursday morning in Rosemont

Montreal firefighters got the call about 11:20 a.m. about a man trapped under debris at 6568 Marquette St., just north of Beaubien St.

When they arrived on the scene they found the worker, a man in his fifties, trapped under debris from a wall, one that witnesses said was just built Wednesday.

The man had reportedly worked at the company for about 10 years.

"He was covered with blocks. They started removing blocks from him. I’m not a doctor but he was in bad shape. He had a big cut on his head. His skull was open. He had internal bleeding. Also, I checked his pulse. He didn’t have anything," said Manuel Reis, who was at the scene.

"It’s kind of sad but there was not much anybody could do. But the police got here pretty quick in a matter of about five minutes somebody was here," said Reis.

Police confirmed the death around 1:00 p.m.

Residents say a home at that address had been recently demolished and excavation was underway at the time of the collapse.

The Workers Health and Safety Board (CSST) is investigating the incident.
