The body of an unidentified man in his 60s has washed up on the shore of the St. Lawrence River in Verdun.
A man bird watching called 9-1-1 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday after he spotted the corpse across from a park at 6319 Lasalle Blvd.
The clothing and description do not match that of missing 70-year-old Paolo Renda, said Montreal police Const. Olivier Lapointe. Renda, who is linked to the Montreal Mafia, disappeared on May 20. His vehicle was found with the keys still in the ignition near his home in Cartierville. He is presumed kidnapped
The unidentified body is also not that of the kayaker who went missing Friday after falling out of her boat after striking a navigational buoy. That kayaker is described as a woman in her 40s. Montreal police have called off the search for the missing kayaker because with the strong currents, they have no leads as to where her body may be found.
An autopsy will be performed on the unidentified body in Verdun.
No signs of violence were found on the man's body, and therefore the man's death does not appear to be caused by foul play at this point, said Lapointe.
