MONTREAL - A mould problem at St-Gerard elementary school has hundreds of students on the move.

The Villeray school announced last week that it would be closing until repairs were completed.

Parents were informed Thursday evening the school's 400 students will be bused to Ahuntsic college until Feb. 17, when they will be relocated again to Georges Vanier high school.

Some parents were relieved to see the situation resolved.

"I think they're doing the best they can with a difficult situation," said Sean Raymond.

Others were upset their children would share a building with Georges Vanier students.

"There is too much violence and drugs at Georges Vanier," one woman said, adding that there must have been other choices.

The school board says the elementary and high school students will remain separate, not sharing classrooms or the cafeteria.

One reason the St-Gerard students have to wait to move into Georges Vanier is because of renovations to the high school. Mould was found there last week as well.

The school board told parents Thursday that the move was made with the safety of students in mind.
