A man in his 20s was stabbed in the upper body at the corner of Henri Bourassa Blvd. and Pelletier Ave. Wednesday.

The victim was stabbed at 2:55 p.m. and then fled the scene. He ran east along Henri Bourassa to Ste. Gertrude where he called police.

He was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Police are searching for four Latino suspects.

The stabbing comes on the same day United Nations officials were in Montreal North, a neighbourhood that's had its share of violence.

The UN was in town as part of a mandate to discuss minority issues worldwide after an invitation from the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada.

In attendance were members of the Villanueva family, who spoke about 18-year-old Fredy Villanueva, shot by police in the neighbourhood in August 2008. The shooting sparked violence in a community where many felt the incident was a result of racial profiling.

Officials from the UN said they were not ready to comment on the situation in Montreal North.

"The point of my visit to this community is to listen. My obligation is to give my views first of all to the government, and only then to the communities and to media," said UN representative Gay McDougall.

The UN also visited Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa in the Canadian leg of their tour, and will report their findings back to the UN Human Rights Commission in March 2010.
