MONTREAL - The sun is shining on the190th St. Patrick’s Day parade in Montreal, which started to roll down Ste. Catherine St.from Fort to Phillip’s Square at noon.

Sub-zero temperatures, however, are making for a considerably chillier experience than the parade of last year, when unseasonably warm climes attracted a giant crowd all along the parade route.

Nevertheless, tens of thousands of green-clad celebrants have lined the route to take part in the festivities.

About 3,000 participants are manning 38 floats, including one from CTV Montreal.

The participants include parade queen Alyssa Caughy, 23, a student at McGill University.

PQ Minister Jean-Francois Lisee, Don Pidgeon, Mayor Michael Applebaum, Mike Kennedy and Grand Marshall Andrew Fogarty were seen sharing a parade float Sunday.

Police arrested two people at the parade after a store window was smashed and a car was vandalized at around 3 p.m.

After the parade a man in his twenties was transported to hospital suffering from serious head injuries.

It would appear that the man fell from a balcony about two-and-a-half storeys above ground inside Les Cours Mont Royal on Peel St. following the parade.
