A luxury home in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue was destroyed by fire early Friday night.

The home at 21-230 Euclide-Lavigne St. was swept up in flames, which began in the basement of the home at 7:30 p.m.

The blaze spread spread quickly and firefighters were unable to save the house.

The fire department had to call in a mechanical shovel overnight to tear down the home because it was a danger to firefighters and neighbours.

Three people were in the home when the fire started; they all evacuated the home safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
