Funeral services were held Friday for Ronia Mansourian, the 15-year-old girl who was the victim of a hit-and-run last week in Laval, and many of her friends from Ecole secondaire St-Maxime were on hand to pay their final respects.

"She was the nicest person, she always had a smile on her face," Ronia's friend Sabrina Khachkhachin told CTV Montreal's Paul Karwatsky outside the St-Gregory Illuminator Armenian Church in Outremont, before breaking down in tears.

A visitation for Ronia was held at the same church Thursday evening, but the funeral was the last opportunity for her friends to show just how much they cared for her.

"We all loved her," said Jessica Ohanian. "She didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve this at all."

Ronia was struck and killed by a speeding driver with a suspended license last Friday in Laval and her death has rocked much of the Armenian community.

The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle sped off, and roughly 12 hours later, 22-year-old Robert Belanger turned himself into the police.

Ronia died the next morning of her injuries.

Her classmates from St-Maxime held a vigil march to the Laval courthouse on Tuesday when Belanger was arraigned, and they were there in force at the funeral as well, showing just what kind of an impact this vibrant young girl had on those who were close to her.

"She was amazing," said Alida Manoian. "She was just always happy, she was always positive about life."

Ronia was placed in a simple white casket, with wreaths of flowers placed at the altar, including one in the shape of the CH logo of her beloved Montreal Canadiens.

Belanger faces charges of dangerous driving causing death, and leaving the scene of an accident. He'll be back in court next Friday for a bail hearing.

Recent court cases have demonstrated that drivers accused of hit and run are unlikely to get bail. Of note in Belanger's case are his prior convictions for theft, drug possession, and leading police on a high speed case, the fact he was driving with a suspended licence, and is currently out on bail while awaiting trial for fraud.

If convicted, Belanger faces life in prison.
