Fifteen-year-old Ronia Mansourian, the victim of Friday's hit-and-run in Chomedey, Laval, succumbed to her injuries and died on Saturday.

The teen was struck by a car— a white, Buick Regal— around 1 p.m. while on her lunch break at Ecole secondaire Saint-Maxime.

After she was hit, she was thrown into a Laval city bus that had stopped on Levesque Boulevard.

A search ensued for the driver, a 22-year-old Robert Belanger, who eventually turned himself in at 1 a.m. Saturday.

Mansourian passed away a few hours later.

Belanger will be charged with hit-and-run causing death and dangerous driving causing death, police said.

If convicted, he could face life in prison.

A Facebook page honouring Mansourian shows her in a Montreal Canadiens jersey.

In a second Facebook page titled, 'On est avec toi Ronia' ('We are with you Ronia') she is seen wearing a t-shirt with a stop sign and the name Halak, a Montreal Canadiens player.

Following the crash, police interviewed several witnesses in attempt to locate the driver of the vehicle. Police also set up a command post at the scene.

A Laval police officer patrolling the north-end Auteuil district spotted a car that seemed to fit the description of the vehicle.

"There was damage…corresponding with the accident and there was no plate on the car," said Sgt. Francois Dumais of the Laval police.

Known to police

Police began looking for the owner of the car and soon after focused their search on Belanger.

"We tried to communicate all the evening yesterday and finally he came by himself in the headquarter here," Dumais said.

Belanger is no stranger to Laval police. In 2007, he was convicted of leading police on a high-speed chase.

At the time of the collision Friday, he was driving with a suspended license, which he acquired thanks to multiple tickets.

Belanger will appear in court on Tuesday for a bail hearing.
