MONTREAL—A public memorial will be held for Lin Jun on Saturday, the first time Montrealers can mourn the Chinese exchange student whose grisly murder led to a global manhunt to arrest Luka Rocco Magnotta.
Zhigui Du and Daran Lin will be in attendance, having spent over a month in Montreal after the death of their son. A private memorial was held on June 25 at Concordia’s Loyola chapel.
The gruesome tale of Jun’s death, starting after the student’s torso was found in a suitcase in Cote-des-Neiges, finally came to an end on July 1 when his head was found in Angrignon Park. In the interim, body parts were mailed across the country, creating an international frenzy.
Jun’s parents are hoping to move on, with the public mourning at 10:00 a.m. at the Montreal Chinese Alliance Church at 13 Finchley Place in Hampstead. No decision has yet been made about where to bury Jun’s remains.
