Following their graduation from Dawson College, Marie-Noelle Dufour, Edith Bolduc and Annie Crowley wanted their theatre training to flower for those in need.
So in 2008 the trio formed Chrysanthemum Tea Productions, which dedicates itself to staging shows to help raise cash and awareness for various local charities.
Their first stage production, The Fairies are Thirsty was a major challenge.
"The play was edgy. The subject was difficult but we had a great director and everything went smooth so it was just a great start," said Edith Bolduc.
The bilingual troupe has thus far helped out Share the Warmth, The Farha Foundation, Maison Flora Tristan womens shelter among others.
They also staged a series of vignette on memories entitled Are We There yet for the Alzheimer's Society of Montreal.
The initiative was an offshoot of a philanthropical outlook the women embrace.
"It was important to me and to the others that we be doing smoething really active with the theatre that we were making," said Annie Crowley.
"Bascially we always pick a charity that reflects the main themes or ideas in the play."
The troupe will teaming up with Montreal organization City of Peace at the 2011 Montreal Fringe Festival. Their play Suspended Pieces deals with mental illness in adolescents and will hit the stage this summer.
