A lack of parking spaces seemed to be the biggest concern among commuters on the Deux Montagnes train line who voiced their opinions at a Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) public consultation meeting Monday night.

The AMT said it can't add parking spaces to the crowded stations.

Instead, it touted other changes to improve service, including new bi-energy, diesel-electric locomotives, which will debut on the Deux Montagnes line in the spring. The engines will pull double-decker cars that hold 1,400 passengers.

More space is good news, said AMT commuter Christina Heavens.

"By the third stop, which is Sainte-Dorothee, the train is pretty much full. It's standing room only. We get off at Roxboro and it's just a mad rush. They barely let you get off the train they're trying to get on. Try to get the maybe two or three seats left," said Heavens.

At close to 8 million passengers per year, the Deux Montagnes line carries half the AMT's annual ridership.
