MONTREAL -- Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of southern Quebec. As of right now, Montreal is facing a thunderstorm watch:

The warning, as of 7:42 p.m. is in effect for:

  • Témiscouata
  • the Eastern Townships
  • Kamouraska - Rivière-du-Loup - Trois-Pistoles
  • Rimouski - Mont-Joli

Environment Canada warns the weather systems can produce very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain."

Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm watch is in place for the following areas:

  • Beauce
  • Charlevoix
  • Drummondville - Bois-Francs
  • La Tuque
  • Lac-Saint-Jean
  • Lanaudière
  • Laurentians Wildlife Reserve
  • Les Escoumins - Forestville
  • Maurice
  • Metro Montréal - Laval
  • Montmagny - L'Islet
  • Richelieu Valley - Saint-Hyacinthe
  • Saguenay
  • Quebec City
  • Vaudreuil - Soulanges - Huntingdon

Conditions are favourable for strong and potentially damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain.

The news is coupled with a smog warning issued in parts of the province. The smog is a result of ongoing forest fires in Ontario and Manitoba.
