A father is asking Transport Quebec to get involved after witnessing numerous car accidents near his property in St-Lin-Laurentides.

Patrick Crevier said a speed limit of 80 km per hour at a curve in the road near his home has led to 18 accidents in 10 years. As a result, he’s had to install a new fence and said he is scared to sit on his front lawn or let his children walk or bike to school.

“I’ve had two cars damaged and each time, it’s the same thing, my car insurance goes up,” he said.

Last week, two of his sons had cars damaged after they were crashed into while parked in the driveway.

“I’m a young guy and my insurance will go up and it will be difficult to find a new car,” said his son, Steve Crevier.

For the older Crevier, while the financial burden is unfortunate, he said the issue is about more than money.

“I’m scared for my kids,” he said. “there is a part of my front lawn I can’t use. I don’t even let my kids cross the street or walk to the park.”

Crevier said he wants the Surete du Quebec to crack down on speeders and for Transport Quebec to make the road safer.

“It’s rare that someone gets stopped here,” he said. “I want them to lower the speed limit.”

Transport Quebec spokesperson Isabelle Doyon said before any changes can be made, the cause of the accidents must first be determined. She said statistics show that 80 per cent are the drivers fault but that before anything further can be done, a complaint must be made by the city or a resident and right now, the area isn’t a priority.

Crevier said he plans on filing a complaint.
