Two years after it was destroyed by a passing truck, a pedestrian overpass has finally been rebuilt over Highway 132.

The new walkway connects Park le Moyne and Marie Victorin Park, in line with Normandie St.

The Highway was closed Monday night as a crane lifted the metal walkway and lowered it into place on pre-built concrete pillars.

The previous walkway was demolished in February 2015 after being hit by a snow removal truck.

The driver had dumped a load of snow, then forgot to lower the cargo bed and drove for several kilometres before smashing into the bridge.

Several people were hurt in that crash, including a woman who drove into a ditch to avoid falling debris.

Longueuil city councillors were shocked last year when the city issued a bid to replace the bridge and every estimate came in nearly double the expected cost.
