The NFL referees lockout is over, but there is no sign that the NHL lockout will end anytime soon.

And that speaks to more than just the difference between the two sports, but to how differently the U.S. and Canada treat their sports.

Even with football games being played, President Barack Obama was calling for an end to the temporary officiating.

"Now, i don't know whether the president of the United States can bring pressure to bear on the National Football League and its referees association, to resolve their dispute, but he is the president. When he speaks, that speaks to the magnitude of what's going on," said Ted Bird.
