Two people were badly hurt in a multi-car pileup on Highway 40 overnight.
The crash happened around midnight near Fairview Mall in Pointe Claire when one car braked. The car following failed to stop in time and smashed into it, triggering a chain reaction that ended with four cars severely damaged.
Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pry open several cars and extract the trapped passengers and drivers.
Two people were brought to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for about two hours.
