Montreal police are investigating a fire after a body was found by firefighters in the basement of a triplex on Gouin Blvd. East.
The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Thursday and when firefighters put out the flames they discovered an unconscious man in the basement.
He was declared dead at the scene, apparently dying of asphyxiation.
Const. Raphael Bergeron said there were traces of a firestarting liquid found at the scene.
The man is reported to be in his mid-forties.
