MONTREAL - Weekend construction closures have already begun in Montreal.

From 9 a.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday, traffic on the Mercier Bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction.

Crews will be working on on the older half of the span, forcing drivers to share the newer, downstream bridge.

The bright light for commuters going to and from the South Shore is that no other bridge will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Paving work on the Champlain Bridge has been finished, although it is scheduled to continue on Highway 15 and the Bonaventure Expressway this weekend.

Only one lane in each direction will be open on Highway 15 between the Atwater and Nuns' Island exits from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Once again a section of the Bonaventure will be closed at Pierre-Dupuy Ave., forcing drivers to detour.

The Crown corporation will decide late Friday afternoon if the paving work will be rescheduled because of rain.
