A 50-year-old man survived an attempt on his life when shots rang out in his Verdun home on Wednesday evening.

Two men opened fire in the unit on Stephens St. around 9 :40 p.m. hitting the man in the shoulder.

He escaped to a neighbour's house and called 911 as the attackers fled. They're still at large. The victim had surgery overnight and is listed in serious condition.

The victim's wife was inside the home when the gunshots erupted. She was not hurt but was severely traumatized and not immediately able to tell investigators what happened.

The victim did not have a criminal record and there's no word on a motive.
