The Quebec Liberals have confirmed that MNA Germain Chevarie has been visited by investigators from the UPAC corruption squad.

The party Friday in a press release that Chevarie is cooperating with investigators.

The MNA from Ile de la Madeleine was the subject of recent allegations that his campaign received illegal financing in 2008, a charge he vigorously denied.

André Côté of the Roche construction firm told the Charbonneau Commission that $5,000 was given to Chevarie as well as former MNA Georges Mamelonet of Gaspe.

Chevarie said that his campaigning financing papers had been studied and approved by the Quebec Director General of Elections.

Chevarie was re-elected to his seat after losing it to a Jeannine Richard of the Parti Quebecois in 2012. He has served as Parliamentary Assistant of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region.
