Laval police have launched a $2-million lawsuit against Basil Parasiris.

Parasiris, 44, shot and killed Laval police Sgt. Daniel Tessier during a botched drug raid in Parasiris's home in 2007.

Parasiris testified during the trial that a group of men entered the home at 5 a.m. on March 2, 2007, and that his wife Penny Gounis was screaming hysterically. He said he thought they were experiencing a home invasion, so he grabbed one of his four firearms for protection.

When someone dressed in black with a white face burst into his bedroom, Parasiris said he fired.

Parasiris was found not guilty of murder, and was never charged with any drug offences. He was sentenced in 2009 to 20 months in prison for possessing and storing illegal firearms.

After his acquittal for Tessier's death, Parisiris sued Laval police for $1 million.

Laval police filed their $2-million countersuit in February.
