The unionized workers blocked both entrances to the sugar cane refinery on Notre Dame St., although they are not holding any picket signs.
The 175 employees at the plant say they are fighting for better wages by using these pressure tactics.
Rogers Sugar, which owns the Lantic plant, said on Tuesday that because of the strike it suspended operation for the day, and will implement its contigency plan to minimize the loss of sugar production.
The three-year contract between Lantic and its employees expired on Feb. 28, and negotiation for the new contract started in March.
Two years ago Lantic Sugar cut 59 jobs at its Montreal factory through layoffs and voluntary retirement.
