A judge is giving Richard Bain one last chance to find a lawyer for his trial, which was supposed to begin on Monday.

Bain was arrested as the suspect in the shooting at the Metropolis club the night of provincial elections in 2012. Since legal proceedings began, he has hired and fired lawyers several times. Bain had changed his mind once again before the holidays and he said he needs more time to get legal counsel.

Judge Guy Cournoyer told Bain on Monday that his trial date will be set on February 20, whether he is ready or not. Cournoyer also ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state the night of the shooting.

Even without these delays, his trial might only start next year because of the busy court schedule.

Bain is accused of first degree murder in the death of stagehand Denis Blanchette on September 4, 2012, and of two attempted murder charges for another technician and a police officer.

He is expected to argue that the medication he takes for bipolar disorder led him to forget all of the events that took place on the evening in question.
